    Music in Summer

It goes on throughout the summer, but the Music in Summer festival is one of the best events we get to have in the city, as we turn two very special places into gigging hotspots.

Both the Alhambra and Ella Fitzgerald Stage at La Grange Park have concerts running with all types of music on offer. You’ll be able to catch performances from artists ranging from hip-hop and opera to jazz and reggae.

Concerts in the park are free, and you’re encouraged to bring your own picnic along. Gigs in the Alhambra average 10 - 40 CHF depending on who is playing.

    • Venue: Alhambra & Ella Fitzgerald Stage

At the time of writing, the full programme has not been released yet, but if you’re staying with us in August and consider yourself a bit of a movie buff, you’ll want to snap up some tickets, rent a deck chair and get down to Parc de la Perle du Lac for Cinetransat.

The open-air film festival runs throughout the month with a mixture of themed movie nights and special screenings. Last year saw everything from a karaoke evening that had everyone singing along to classic movie songs to an 80s themed night.

You can see the full line-up on the official Cinetransat website.

    Paddleboard on Lake Geneva

    • Date: Throughout August
    • Venue: Lake Geneva

When the weather is as perfect as it can be, it’s a fantastic idea to be down by the lake. One of the more unique activities you can try out when there is stand-up paddle boarding, a very easy way to sail around the lake at your own pace.

Several different outlets provide this service, with SUP Geneve and Tropical being two of the best. They will get you acquainted with the board and out in the lake in no time at all. After paddling, you can go for a stroll along the shores or perch up at a trendy bar and sip on a glass of wine with an incredible view.

For anyone who wants to take it as easy as possible, check to see if there are any lake cruises when you’re down by the water.

    The Grand Fireworks

    • Date: Mid-August
    • Venue: The harbour

We really like to celebrate summer here in Geneva and nowhere is that more obvious than when we have our Grand Fireworks display.

Usually taking place on the second Saturday of the month, the 45-minute display down by the harbour won’t start until the sun is down (around 10 pm) and we go all out on putting on one the best firework displays you’ll ever see.

    Bullet for My Valentine

    • Date: 20th August
    • Venue: PTR Factory

August, generally speaking, is a quiet month for concerts and gigs around the city. There’s going to be one big exception to that rule this month when British metal band Bullet For My Valentine comes to perform at PTR.

Known as the top rock venue in town, it’s going to be a ruckus affair.

    Cirque Knie

    • Venue: Plaine de Plainpalais

Celebrating 100 years as the largest circus in Switzerland, the Cirque Knie is holding a special anniversary run at Plaine de Plainpalais toward the end of the month.
